A German company creates a concrete road that charges electric vehicles whilst driving!
Currently there are a lot of doubts from the public suggesting the number of public charging points are very limited. However the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has a solution consisting of a new concrete road that is able to charge EVs as they drive along.
The company’s plan is to create a system that works by burying electrified wire coils into the concrete road. This creates a magnetic field, working similarly to wireless smartphone charging stations.
In order for the process to work electric vehicles will be fitted with a receiver coil, therefore EV drivers will be able to pick up the charge and draw electricity from the coils.
This project will take place over a course of three phases, the German company Magment who specialise in wireless induction and will be creating the road, says it will be the world’s first wireless charging concrete highway once it’s up and running.
